Uncle Tom Girvin (Grandpa Tom's uncle) with his horse. The US Cavalry purchased the horse to send to the WWI effort in Europe. Later Uncle Tom was sent to the Calvary unit in Europe. Story goes that the horse recognized Tom and whinnied to be petted!
